2008 Honda Ridgeline
Does being different mean better?

Performance
The Ridgeline's sole powertrain uses the same 247-hp, 3.5-liter V6, 5-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system found in Honda's Pilot SUV. (Fuel economy is a comparatively thrifty 15/20 mpg city/highway, which uses the EPA's new fuel economy method of measurement). Hardcore pickup fans decry the lack of a high-torque V8, but a new aluminum-block engine in the 4.2- to 4.8-liter range is rumored to be in the works for the 2012 model, along with a V6 turbodiesel. And a hybrid-powered Ridgeline might be available as soon as the 2009 model year.
The Ridgeline's AWD system powers the front wheels, but can engage the rears when the front tires slip. Although the Ridgeline lacks low-range gearing, a dashboard button locks in a 50/50 front/rear power split.
In determining Ridgeline's 5000-pound tow rating, Honda included a pair of 150-pound passengers, each with 15 pounds of personal cargo stowed somewhere in the truck, and a full tank of fuel. Since passengers or cargo poundage reduce the towing capacity, that figure is a real world towing number, not merely an ideal scenario. This rating would obviously not be sufficient for, say, a 5th-wheel trailer or toy hauler, it's more than enough for towing a powerboat, pop-up camper, or an ATV/dirt-bike trailer, or a load of gear in the cargo bed (as much as 1,550 pounds of payload).
All models also come equipped with standard transmission and oil coolers, heavy duty brakes, dual radiator fans, an exclusive fresh air intake system for improved towing performance in hot weather conditions and pre-wiring for 4- and 7-pin trailer hook up. The tow hitch costs an extra $325, and MSRP retail prices on the '08 model range from $28,000 to $35,090.
Interior
When driving the vehicle unloaded, we found the Ridgeline's acceleration from its V6 to be a bit leisurely until we employed some aggressive foot action to get it up to speed. (But we'll also admit to being a bit spoiled by the throttle response of our turbocharged diesel pickup.) On the other hand, the Ridgeline drives as smoothly as we've come to expect of all Hondas.
