The lower front-bumper valance is redesigned with an integrated, one-inch air deflector to reduce drag and improve fuel economy, and new fog lamps are larger for a stronger appearance and improved effectiveness. XLT models sport body color bumpers and new wheels and tires, a new chrome H-bar grille is standard, while Sport series gets a black horizontal grille with a body-color surround. Sport SuperCabs have new standard step bars, and Sport SuperCab 4x4s wear the trio of skid plates to protect major underbody components. SIRIUS Satellite Radio is available in most models, and all radios except the base AM/FM are MP3 capable with standard auxiliary input jacks.
Features and Options
Standard on base XL are 15-inch, 7-spoke silver steel wheels; black front and rear bumpers, H-bar grille, door handles and outside mirrors; interval wipers; Rally gauge cluster; AM/FM radio with clock; black vinyl flooring and 60/40 vinyl split-bench seat (cloth on SuperCab). XL 4x4s get the 3.0-liter V-6 (Regular Cab) or the more powerful 4.0-liter SOHC V-6 (SuperCab), electronic shift-on-the-fly 4x4 system and all-terrain tires.
XLT models add body-color bumpers, a chrome grille, cloth 60/40-split bench seat, color-coordinated carpeting and floor mats, air conditioning and MP3-capable audio with CD player. XLT 4x4s get a V-6 engine (3.0-liter in Regular Cabs, 4.0-liter SOHC in SuperCabs), 15-inch chrome steel wheels, fog lamps, heavy-duty gas shocks, tow hooks and (in the 4-door SuperCab V6) rear jump seats.
Sport models start with the 3.0-liter V-6 and black horizontal-slat grille in a body-color surround; body-color wheel-lip moldings, mirrors and door latch handles; fog lamps; rugged vinyl flooring, heavy-duty gas shocks, tow hooks, black side-step bars and Class III trailer hitch receiver (SuperCab); and 15-inch, split-spoke machined cast-aluminum wheels. Sport 4x4s get 15-inch chrome steel (Regular Cab) or 16-inch cast-aluminum wheels (SuperCab), the three skid plates and (in SuperCabs) the 4.0-liter SOHC V-6.
Our top-of-the-line FX4 Off-Road SuperCab test truck was well motivated by the 207-hp 4.0-liter SOHC V-6 and limited-slip rear axle, and it rode and handled better than expected on its all-terrain tires on 16-inch Y-spoke cast-aluminum wheels and heavy-duty Rancho-branded gas shocks. Its distinctive, macho looks were enhanced by two-tone paint, body-color H-bar grille, black door handles and mirrors and grey bumpers and wheel-lip moldings.
