Interior

Inside, Mustang GT scores points for nicely balancing retro touches and modern refinements. The twin dash eyebrows, three spoke wheel and chrome ringed gauge pods with thin line numbers are vintage Mustang. But, they're balanced by new age wrinkles like an available, color configurable instrument cluster, and Shaker 500- and Shaker 1000-watt sound systems. Controls and switchgear are easy to find and simple to use. The GT's front bucket seats are well contoured, supportive and comfortable over a long haul. Head restraints angle in nicely to support your head and neck. Coupe or convertible, Mustang has rear seats more suitable to parcels or pets than adult sized people. Trunk room is generous, by sports car standards. The coupe measures 13.1 cubic feet in back, and the convertible checks in at 9.7 cubic feet; big enough for that weekend getaway.

With a base MSRP range of $25,840-$27,020 (Coupe) and $30,665-$31,845 (Convertible), the Mustang GTs compete with lots of fine sports cars. What the pony cars bring to the party is the chance to sample something that many drivers may not have experienced before—the best 300-hp value in the sports car segment, and modern American musclecar performance. With fine, retro lines and rumbling, V-8 power, the Mustang GT is modern, but respectfully retro, and totally unique in its class. (www.fordvehicles.com)
