Ford F-Series pickups, in all their many variations, have been America's bestselling full-size pickups for 30 years and the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. for 25 years. But as the competition heats up in this still-giant segment of the business, Ford truck engineers have been working overtime to stay ahead of the game.
For starters, they have maintained capability leadership with a maximum tow rating (when properly equipped) of 11,000 pounds and a max payload capacity of 3,080 pounds. And they offer the segment's widest variety of body configurations, including three different cabs (all with four doors), three box lengths, two box styles and five unique series—entry-level XL, athletic STX, all-purpose XLT, offroad-ready FX4 and luxurious Lariat. Another level of luxury is the F-150 King Ranch with Castano leather trim available on the Lariat SuperCrew.
Bold Design
Bold styling is an F-150 hallmark, beginning with its strong front end. The assertive, muscular grille is bordered by quad-circle headlamps in a wraparound fascia. The front doors are characterized by Ford's signature truck beltline.
Inside, all F-150s boast a two-tone instrument panel with three different cluster designs giving each series a distinctive look. The flow-through center console on FX4 and Lariat offers the option of two captain's chairs and a floor shifter, and trucks with the 40/20/40-split-front-bench seat have a different center stack that optimizes mid-passenger legroom.
Powertrain and Chassis
There are three engine choices: a 202-hp 4.2-liter V-6, a 248-hp 4.6-liter V-8 and an electronic-throttle-control 24-valve 5.4-liter V-8. The larger V-8 delivers 300 horsepower and 365 lb.-ft. of torque, and a flex-fuel version can run on E85 (85 percent ethanol, 15 percent gas), straight gasoline or any combination of the two.
