Interior Style
Technology abounds in the TL interior. Both models feature a 6-disc CD, DVD-Audio, Am/FM/Cassette sound system, with eight speaker Surround Sound, Dolby Pro Logic II and a Bluetooth hands-free wireless phone interface. Standard equipment also includes MP3 and WMA playback, and speed-sensitive volume compensation. Acura's Navigation System is included in Type-S and available on TL. The oversized, 8-inch screen is highly legible and the newly designed interface is user friendly. The nav system also has a voice interaction feature and the rearview camera helps drivers fine-tune their parking. Real-time traffic information is now available for 76 major metropolitan areas. Inside storage includes a set of flip out door pockets, covered, twin compartment center console, glove box and cup holders. The TL's trunk is on the small side for the midsize sector, measuring just 12.5 cubic feet, but there's a lockable rear seat trunk pass-through to accommodate long items.
The TL's design wraps all of the above in a handsome package. Model specific styling cues say "Type-S" to sharp eyed observers. Black chrome grille trim and a unique fascia, bumper and splitter distinguish the front end. The profile view includes 10-spoke alloy wheels in a dark silver finish, wide sill moldings and lower valance and smoked, rear side marker lights. Out back, black chrome trims the taillights, and a model specific bumper and spoiler join a set of quad exhaust tips. Special badging rounds out the look.
Driving into its 14th year, the TL shows no signs of letting up or slowing down. Acura has assembled a fine collection of luxury and technology, and pulled it together skillfully. The Type-S returned to the Acura lineup last year after a three-year absence following it's redesign, and the return is a welcome one. Not because of any lack in the TL, but rather because the Type-S adds a few more shades to the pallet. (www.acura.com)
