Seat comfort and support are satisfying, at least for a minivan, and the attractive two-tone interior boasts plenty of space. Despite short seat bottoms, thigh support is acceptable. The large drop-down glovebox is easy to reach. The third-row seat gets a new spring mechanism, allowing one-hand folding into the floor. Integrated auto-folding headrests are claimed to be an industry first. Nissan says the sliding door openings are the longest in the front-wheel-drive minivan class, at 33.8 inches.
Every Quest now uses a five-speed automatic transmission; the four-speed unit, previously installed in lower-end models, is gone. Nissan's 3.5-liter V-6 engine develops 235 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. Traction control and a tire-pressure monitor system are standard.
Amenities
Anyone who's driven a 2004-06 Quest can expect more of the same. Fine ride quality is helped by the long (124-inch) wheelbase, coupled with handling that's definitely tauter than most minivans, delivering sportier road behavior. Acceleration qualifies as enthusiastic: a modest cut above the minivan norm, if short of exceptional. Except for a bit of road noise, the Quest is quiet. Antilock braking incorporates electronic brake-force distribution, as well as Brake Assist to improve operation in emergency situations. Nissan's Vehicle Dynamic Control is standard on the 3.5SE and available for the SL edition.
Available since May '06, the 2007 Quest will come in four trim levels: 3.5, 3.5 S, 3.5 SL, and top-of-the-line 3.5 SE. Side-curtain airbags and active front head restraints are standard, but seat-mounted side-impact airbags are optional. Michelin PAX run-flat tires may be installed. Options include a navigation system, as well as new Bluetooth hands-free phone capability and a 6-CD changer with MP3 connectivity. The DVD rear entertainment system moves from 7-inch screens to 8-inch size (single or dual). Nissan also offers power-operated sliding doors and rear liftgate.
Upper trim levels may be equipped with a center console, as part of the Technology Package. Models without the console have a front-row folding tray table. Either XM or Sirius satellite radio may be installed. An available SkyView roof contains glass panels over the second and third rows. A RearView Monitor also may be installed, to display objects at the rear while backing up.
