Performance
All of the above is wrapped in the sheetmetal of a new-age station wagon. The MKX design is a contemporary mix of wagon and sport ute. The high beltline, small greenhouse and wide body look says SUV, but the rounded roofline, steeply raked windshield and lower stance lend a car-like feel. Lincoln frames the picture with a restrained front-end treatment and a slick, full width, LED light bar in back. Chrome mirror caps and rims provide a splash of flash on the otherwise monotone MKX.
Lincoln is clearly of two minds these days when it comes to SUV styling. The MKX is refined and low key, aiming "for a new generation of luxury buyers, those who prefer understated sophistication over brashness." By contrast, the recently redesigned Navigator wears a front end brimming with brightwork. Then again, Lincoln's SUV Flagship competes with the Cadillac Escalade, the reigning rock star among SUVs and Cadillac's resident King of Bling.
Classy and comfortable, MKX is nicely positioned to attract attention in a growing segment. As the exodus continues out of large SUVs, shoppers looking for room, luxury appointments and all-weather capability in a smooth wrapper would do well to test drive this new Lincoln. (www.lincoln.com)
