Toyota was also celebrating its 50th anniversary and marked the occasion by unveiling the Toyota Tundra CrewMax. This truck is the newest iteration of a model that took the domestic truck market by storm. This version will offer a 5.7-liter V-8 engine paired with four-wheel drive and four full-size doors to gain access to the cavernous interior. Toyota Executive Vice President Jim Lentz says the truck was designed in the U.S. and very close attention was paid to what consumers want in a truck. In short, they want BIG, and the result is a truck that is larger in every dimension.
Tundra CrewMax
The Tundra CrewMax is powered by a standard 4.7-liter V-8 producing 271 hp and 313 lb.-ft. of torque, or can be fitted with a 5.7-liter V-8, which produces 381 hp and an astounding 401 lb.-ft torque. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard for the 4.7 V-8, but the 5.7-liter gets a six-speed automatic. Stopping power is supplied by four-wheel ventilated disc brake with four-wheel ABS with EBD and Brake Assist.
The CrewMax has front-hinged doors at the rear that open to 80 degrees for easy access, with 44.5 in. rear seat legroom and features the segment's only reclining and sliding rear seat. The seat bottom also folds up to provide a flat floor storage area, and the seat back folds down for flexibility in seating or storage.
Nissan Rogue
The 2008 Nissan Rogue unveiled at the show is a mid-size crossover that seeks to move Nissan upmarket and fulfill functional and emotional needs of buyers. Overall it seems to be a high quality vehicle, with successful exterior design elements and hard and soft touch interior appointments.
The Rogue will be available in two models, Rogue S and Rogue SL, each with a standard 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve inline 4-cylinder rated at 170 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque, and fitted with Nissan's advanced Xtronic CVT automatic. Standard features include stability control and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS. Both will be offered in all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive configurations.
