Outside, Chevy opted for a less-is-more approach. SS styling cues include a special fascias front and rear, with the former getting a black mesh grill and fog lamps. The side view shows an admirable absence of all things typically SUV, like roof racks, cladding and chrome trim. Rear pillars are blacked out, windows tinted and 6-spoke 20-inchers pack the wheel wells. Overall, the look is more stealthy than sporty, but it works.
Our typically equipped SS 4x2 stickered for $31,205. For the money, you get a bona fide muscle truck, with first rate, straight-line snap and a rumbly exhaust soundtrack. You also get a sport utility that feels composed on twisty roads and is genuinely fun to drive. The final draw is the utility factor. A 4x2 TrailBlazer SS can pack a payload of 1,449 lbs. and tow as much as 6,700 lbs. This combination of genuine sport appeal and everyday utility makes the Trailblazer SS a unique and interesting choice. (www.chevrolet.com)
