2007 Chevrolet Tahoe
Quieter, crisper, quicker and more fuel efficient

GM's new Gen IV "Vortec" family of small-block V-8 engines offers the rare combination of more power and better fuel efficiency than similar-size engines of previous models. A 290-hp 4.8-liter version is standard in base 2WD Tahoes, while a 320-hp AFM 5.3-liter motivates most others. The former provides enough performance, the latter, more than enough, despite driving through GM's old four-speed automatic. The soon-to-come new six-speed automatic will be a welcome improvement.
Interior
2007 Tahoes are available in base LS, mid-range LT, and top-rung LTZ variations, each offered with 2WD or 4WD. The standard LS cabin is nicely done in a two-tone color scheme with softer, low-gloss materials. The LED-backlit instruments are set off by chrome accents matching those on the HVAC vents. Most accessories and controls are flush-mounted, with precious little exposed metal, and all models have masking "close outs" around the seat bottoms and doorsill trim plates.
Among the many new or substantially upgraded features and options are remote vehicle starting to get your engine warmed up, and the cabin warmed or cooled prior to departure. First- and second-row heated seats to warm occupants' posteriors, ultrasonic rear park assist and/or a rear-view camera to spot and/or audibly warn of objects, people, or pets in your path when backing up, touch-screen GPS navigation, power-deployed running boards, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with a large eight-inch screen, and convenient power fold-and-tumble second-row seats are also available.
The '07 Tahoe debuts the new face of Chevrolet trucks, with a large gold bow tie emblem centered on its twin-port horizontal grille. While these trucks are actually slightly larger than the previous models, the sleek new design makes them appear somewhat smaller and leaner. The much-improved aerodynamics, highlighted by a more steeply raked windshield, and a smoother roofline, noticeably contribute to this new look, while the larger wheels and wider tracks give it a capably powerful stance. Seventeen-inch wheels and tires are standard, hulking 20-inchers are available.
Styling
A bulging power-dome hood hints of impressive performance, prominent fenders with integrated wheel flares aggressively accommodate the big wheels and tires, and a wraparound fascia enhances aerodynamics and eliminates the conventional bumper-to-body gap. The lower fascia incorporates integrated tow hooks, and a front license plate holder with a skid-plate look that compliments the Tahoe's appearance. The fog lamps and headlamps boast expensive-looking, jewel-like optics. An optional Z71 package features a special fascia with a platinum chrome protective skid plate, 18-inch wheels and tires, larger tow hook openings, larger and more prominent fog lamps, platinum chrome grille trim, and a specific grille texture.
