Either a switch or the key can open the in-bed trunk, which holds the temporary spare tire and contains a drain plug. For easier trunk access, the dual-action tailgate can swing out like a door, or flip down in the usual way.
Beneath its hood, a 3.5-liter VTEC V-6 engine yields 255 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque.
Beneath its hood, a 3.5-liter VTEC V-6 engine yields 255 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. Honda says the five-speed VTM-4 automatic transmission has been "strengthened." Equipped with a Lock function, VTM-4 anticipates the need for all-wheel drive as driving conditions change.
A Ridgeline can tow a 5,000-pound trailer, 22-24 foot camper, or 22-foot boat. Gas mileage is estimated at 16-mpg city and 21-mpg highway, by the Environmental Protection Agency. Towing a 5,000-pound trailer seems nearly effortless, at least on level surfaces. When its bed is fully loaded, too, the Ridgeline performs capably, even through tight curves. Though the in-bed trunk is handy, as promised, its utility diminishes if the bed is loaded.
Honda's core value is "providing safety ... and being environmentally responsible," said large project leader Gary Flint. This is the first pickup with standard Vehicle Stability Assist and traction control. Four-channel antilock braking incorporates electronic force distribution and brake assist for more effective "panic" stops.
Side-impact airbags are accompanied by side-curtain airbags with rollover sensing, and the Ridgeline is designed for crash compatibility with cars and pedestrians. LATCH child-seat attachments are provided for all three rear-seat positions.
