Ye Dodge in Ye Garage
Rounding out the day and the Big 3 debuts, the Dodge Garage, located outside of the main exhibit hall, invited journalists and other guests to review its latest concept cars. One, the Dodge Caliber, was previously revealed at the recent Geneva Show, but its presence in California further supported the company's interest in building the car. The fact that Dodge calls it a "global car" has many implications for what most people consider to be the U.S.'s most international marketplace—Los Angeles.
The Caliber's clever styling defines what Dodge is all about: bold, powerful, capable and street smart—again, characteristics necessary to compete in a crowded community.
Snapping at Caliber's heels was Dodge's more aggressive concept vehicle, the Nitro. Released at the Chicago Auto Show, the Nitro is a midsize SUV concept with a very aggressive stance and plenty of visual expressiveness, an appropriate mix in car-crazy California where many drivers personally identify with their vehicles.
One thing is evident: Automakers that participated in this year's California International Auto Show clearly understand their customers—enthusiasts who demand performance without sacrificing economy, and appearance without sacrificing functionality.
