2004 Suzuki Aerio wagon front view photo
Continued from Page 1

When evaluated solely for its engine, the Aerio SX offers a healthy dose of performance for the money, but the fully independent MacPherson strut suspension doesn't seem altogether dialed in with the power output. Body roll is pronounced, likely due to the aforementioned higher center of gravity. Granted, the softness of the suspension does make sense for buyers who need a cargo/people hauler that absorbs bumps without jolting the load or passengers.

Also new this year are 15-inch alloy wheels, a driver-seat armrest (no longer an option) and a 7-speaker stereo. SX wagons also now offer heated mirrors, fog lamps, a revised rear spoiler and an automatic climate control system on cars equipped with ABS. Looking at the various Aerio models in general, it's offered as a sedan in S and LX trim. The Aerio SX is the "wagon" version. The S sedan comes with 14-inch steel wheels with covers, color-keyed front and rear bumpers, daytime running lights, air conditioning, a 7-speaker stereo with a CD player, power windows and mirrors and split-folding rear seats.

The Aerio SX offers a healthy dose of performance for the money.

With the LX and SX, you get all of the above plus 15-inch aluminum wheels, keyless remote entry, fog lamps, a rear spoiler, color-keyed door handles and mirrors, chrome exhaust tips, an in-dash 6-disc CD changer with seven speakers, power door locks, cruise control, reading lamps, below-seat storage bin and front-seat back pockets. Optional equipment for all models includes floor mats and four-wheel ABS; the LX and SX have the additional option of AWD.

Getting back to the styling mentioned at the outset, the Aerio SX wagon's unique visuals extend to the dash as well, which has a deeply recessed, asymmetrical slit for the instrument panel that displays an orange, old-school style digital readout. Suzuki describes the styling of the Aerio SX as being the company's "edgiest model" and "loaded with personality." A description perhaps better served in describing your blind date. Of course, it's up to consumers whether they can see past the Aerio's SX distinctive appearance and discover the virtues in its character. (www.suzuki.com)
