2004 Ford Focus Sedan
Practical sedan utility with a dash of style

Even lower Focus trim levels come packed with power accessories.
The sedan's trunk, with a 12.9 cubic-foot capacity, is designed to hold two standard-size suitcases. Just in case your fraternity brothers get a bit carried away and lock you inside, the trunk contains a glow-in-the-dark emergency-release handle. The 60/40-split rear seatback folds down while the seat bottoms can flip up to provide a flat load floor. A relatively long wheelbase (103 inches) helps smooth the ride and increase interior volume. All body styles are 168.1 inches long and 56.3 inches tall, with seating for five. It makes for a very practical and versatile package.
Antilock braking is still an option, but a definite consideration. ZTS sedans can be equipped with more costly AdvanceTrac, Ford's vehicle dynamic stability system, which incorporates ABS and all-speed traction control. Side-impact airbags also are available.
Although the SE Comfort sedan looks more basic inside than the ZX5 hatchback, it still has a good amount of equipment, including power doors and locks, power windows, cruise control, a tilt wheel and a CD player. Low-end LX sedans run on modest 14-inch tires, but SE models wear 15-inchers on alloy wheels. Befitting its sportier nature, the ZTS gets 16-inch rubber along with sport suspension, a rear spoiler and a tachometer.
Focus sedans are powered by 2.0- or 2.3-liter inline fours.
Sharp handling with excellent steering feedback is evident in each version of the Focus-a result of suspension tuning that's more European in nature than that of some competitors. The Focus SE sedan corners with pleasing accuracy and steers with a relatively light touch. A comfortably compliant ride adds to the driving enjoyment of this well-sorted-out machine.
In the SE Comfort sedan with the 130-horsepower engine and automatic, a hint of engine snarl is gets your attention on acceleration; otherwise, the Focus is pleasantly quiet. Even with an automatic transmission, the sedan's performance is lively, helped by smoothly efficient shifting action from the smart four-speed unit. With either the 110- or 130-horsepower engine, the EPA estimates fuel economy at 25 mpg city/34 mpg highway for a Focus with automatic.
