The 2003 Mach 1 gets its power from a 4.6-liter, 32-valve DOHC V-8 that puts out 305 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque.
Only available as a coupe, the Mach 1 looks as good as it goes. The most visually arresting design cue is the "shaker" scoop, a throwback to the original Mach 1. The ram air scoop channels fresh air straight into the engine for improved power and torque. The scoop and the center power-dome hood are finished in low-gloss black. The best part of the scoop may be the view from the driver's seat, revving the engine and watching the scoop "shake" as the engine moves.
Other external changes to the Mach 1 include a unique trim appliqué on the C-pillars that gives the roofline a subtle fastback appearance to emulate the original. To enhance the low-to-the-ground appearance, the car features another classic Mach 1 trait, an air dam extension that's painted low-gloss black. A low-gloss black stripe runs the length of the side just above the rocker moldings.
Sitting inside the Mach 1 is a blast from the past. The seats have increased lateral support and are trimmed in "comfort weave" black leather that is reminiscent of the material used in the original Mach 1. The center stack and shifter bezel are painted in a gray accent finish, while the shift boot ring and shifter ball are aluminum. The accelerator, brake, clutch, and dead pedals are polished aluminum. The gray-backed instrument cluster features unique retro-look dials, and a Mach 460 six-disc in-dash CD changer audio system comes standard.
The Mach 1 is the newest derivative to join Ford's Living Legends lineup of cars, which includes Mustang, Thunderbird, the soon-to-be released Ford GT and the Forty Nine concept. Mach 1 production will be limited to 6,500 numbered cars—each coming nearly fully loaded at a cost of $28,995.
The new Mustang Mach 1 was born out of the passion of Mustang enthusiasts across America. It's another example of how Ford continues to find great success with the "what's old is new" theory. In this case, what's new is a hot Mustang named Mach 1. (www.fordvehicles.com)

How big was the overhaul? Could be poorly installed rings. Did the guy hone the bore?
Did he replace the valve guides?
