2002 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally
Shaking up the hot import segment

This rally edition comes off the assembly line with premium five-spoke OZ alloy wheels. Interestingly, a 16- or even 17-inch package isn't available yet.
Although they're not saying so, Mitsubishi's product planners are probably considering an engine upgrade. Another 40 or 50 horsepower would be nice, as would rear discs, ABS and bigger wheels and tires. Unfortunately, that would probably bring the price closer to $20K. But if this car is going to seriously compete with factory modified versions of its competition, like the Mazda MP3, the SVT Ford Focus and the Nissan Sentra SE-R, it needs a healthy horsepower injection and some brake and suspension upgrades.
For now, the OZ Lancer is just another pretty face. We're looking forward to trying its future generations, particularly when Mitsubishi gooses up the engine. (www.mitsubishicars.com)
