Sebring's Limited level leather-lined interior is available in either Deep Royal Blue & Cream two-toned or monochrome Deep Royal Blue. It also boasts electroluminescent gauges.
Inside, the Limited's well-appointed, leather-lined interior is now available in two schemes: carryover two-tone Deep Royal Blue and Cream or new-for-'02 monochrome Deep Royal Blue. Bespoke black-on-white gauges are electroluminescent when illuminated. The Sebring Limited also has a full complement of comfort and convenience touches. Controls are well positioned, the sole exception being the otherwise-slick four-disc caddyless CD changer, which is buried low and deep in the center of the dash. On the firm side but well formed, the front buckets offer good support and comfort. Hindquarters space is at somewhat more of a premium; a pair of modestly sized adults wouldn't want to co-exist back there for extended trips.
The '02 Sebring Limited offers three Equipment Group packages. Standard is the Security Group, which includes central locking and a Sentry Key engine immobilizer/theft alarm. Northerners can opt for the Cold Weather Group (engine-block and battery heaters), while the Smoker's Group offers a removable ashtray and lighter.
The Sebring Convertible is sleeker by design due in part to a higher deck lid. One-button operation lowers the top and all four windows simultaneously.
As on all previous Sebrings, lowering and raising its fully lined fabric top is a breeze. Flip a latch on either side of the windshield header then touch a console-mounted button and the Sebring transforms in less than 10 seconds as the four side windows lower simultaneously. Installing the one-piece top boot is almost as simple, although it takes a bit more time than lowering the top itself. As with most convertibles, additional wind noise is perceptible during al-fresco driving, but our tester Sebring had neither air nor water leaks when fully clothed. Incidentally, the Sebring's exterior color palette for 2002 now includes Steel Blue Pearl, Onyx Green Pearl and Light Almond Pearl.
As America's best-selling convertible since its 1996 introduction, the Sebring's enduring popularity is attributable to the fact that it affordably offers the open-air experience—backed by a 3/36 basic warranty. MSRP for the base LX model currently begins slightly above $23,000, and the mid-level LXi can be had for a couple more Gs. Or, dig a little deeper and enjoy the Limited's luxuriousness and refinement. Regardless of trim level, any 2002 Sebring should make topless motoring fairly enjoyable. (www.chrysler.com)
