2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LTZ 4WD
Carving a bold new path through the crowded SUV field

Team-haulers will likely be interested in the TrailBlazer EXT. Its 129-inch wheelbase allows room for a third row of seats for comfortable 7-passenger accommodation.
On the downside, the TrailBlazer's compliant suspension tuning does permit a fair amount of weight-jacking in transient moves. It also contributes to some tail twitchiness in tight corners under trailing throttle or brake. While slipping into AWD mode markedly diminishes that inclination, doing so also will impact fuel economy, which the EPA rates at 15/21 mpg city/highway. Finally, when Chevy gets ready to do its first round of TrailBlazer tweaking, a bit more feel in the power steering would be a most welcome enhancement.
Given their current market positions, it's a bit optimistic to think that the new TrailBlazer will replace its prime rival—and equally new-for-2002—Ford Explorer as the best seller in class. But there's no doubt the Bow Tie Brigade has come better prepared than ever before to deal with that formidable task. The Chevrolet TrailBlazer is a solid performer out of the box. And one that will only grow stronger over time. (www.chevrolet.com)
