Most interior features carry over from 2001. New innovations are basically all electronic and include optional satellite radio and available tri-band cell phone service.
XM Satellite Radio is another innovation. For a subscription fee of $9.95 per month, the Seville delivers up to 100 channels of audio programming, in a variety of formats. Operating anywhere in the continental United States, Satellite Radio mixes commercial-free music with channels that have limited or name-brand advertising. Users can select the type of programming that they prefer, which remains available throughout a cross-country trip.
Cadillac's advanced navigation system uses a single DVD disc to show route maps that cover the entire continental U.S. and Canada. The dashboard-mounted touch screen is 1.5 inches bigger than before and incorporates voice recognition. Passengers can even watch DVD movies using the system when the Seville's transmission selector is in Park position.
For 2002, the navigation system's screen is larger. Voice commands can be processed in five languages. The system can also play DVDs while the vehicle isn't in motion.
A Seville with the new version of MagnaRide does not necessarily produce a dramatic, immediately noticeable difference. But that's only because the previous Seville rode so beautifully. Yielding a super smooth experience, the latest Seville also demonstrates outstanding stability on the highway. Not many sedans can beat this Cadillac or even match it for an all-around excellent driving and riding experience. On the other hand, operating the latest satellite-based navigation system isn't quite as easy as Cadillac would have us believe. Yes, the bigger screen is a benefit. Following the oral or visual instructions is easy enough, because Cadillac's system is among the better ones. Still, selecting destinations and getting underway can turn into something of an ordeal (as is the case with many nav systems on the market).
Imperfect functioning of the navigation system is a minor quibble, though, when you consider the Seville's many virtues. Seville owners can expect plenty of power (with either engine), a satisfying level of precise control, and a ride that's relaxing and secure, sure to provide many pleasantly quiet hours behind the wheel. Throw in bountiful passenger space and an ample trunk, and it's clear why luxury-car owners in so many nations turn to this particular breed of Cadillac. (www.cadillac.com)
